Barwick Wines entered the wine industry with the planting of its existing vineyards in 1997 and 1998. A fully operational modern winery was constructed in readiness for Vintage 2004.
Barwick Estates has vineyards in the Margaret River and the Blackwood River Valley wine appellations, both located in the South West corner of Western Australia at latitude of 340 degrees south. The vineyards, some ninety kilometres apart, provide a geographical diversity of unique terroirs as well as commercial diversity in the event of agricultural failure in one area.
Overall the vineyards are planted to 75% red grape varieties and 25% to white. The winery, constructed in 2003, is situated on the St Johns Brook Vineyard in the northern part of the Margaret River wine appellation. In its present configuration the winery has a capacity of 1,200 tonnes, making it one of the top ten wineries in the region.
