Medium garnet in colour, it has a powerful and expressive nose of ripe cherry with forest floor and smokey oak, opening to a palate of supple red and dark berry fruit with fresh stalky elements, savoury oak, smoked meat and dried herb complexity. Normally valued at $40 RRP, it’s a wine that is simply perfect with the complex flavours of Chinese master stock chicken.
Situated on the oldest existing vineyard in Relbia, Tasmania, Sharmans Wines produced a real treasure with their Cabernet Merlot 2016. Deep ruby in colour, it shows impressively ripe fruit power with a deep mix of black fruit, mint and bitter chocolate, savoury tannins and cedary oak on the finish. From one of the few sites in the region warm enough to ripen Cabernet successfully, it’s now drinking close to its peak and is a sensational partner with slow cooked favourites like osso bucco.
