Generally celebrated for their red wines, Brand’s Laira show that Coonawarra can turn out a mightily-impressive Chardonnay with their Blockers Chardonnay 2018. A Trophy and Gold Winner at the Limestone Coast Wine Show 2019, it’s richly-flavoured with concentrated white peach, nectarine and grapefruit, creamy and textural mouthfeel with excellent flavour length and a good balance of tangy acidity and quality savoury oak.
From the Frankland River sub-region of Great Southern comes another very special Chardonnay. The Three Elms Timbertops Chardonnay 2018 is rich, flavoursome and full-bodied with a bright, deep mix of fruit, creamy texture and nutty oak complexity. A very long and savoury wine with beautiful umami characters throughout, it’s best enjoyed with rich seafood dishes like a prawn bisque with lemon oil.
