Richard Hamilton has a long history dating back to 1872 and his was one of the first families to establish vineyards in McLaren Vale.
In the winery: The grapes spend 14 months in French oak vats and hogsheads before ageing in around 50% new oak for 10 months, then finished off over 1 to 3 years in old oak.
In the glass: Full, dark red.
On the nose: Lifted currant, cassis, cola and spice.
On the palate: Full-bodied, velvety and round with a deep core of black and blue fruit, fine velvety tannins and a long plum pudding-like finish. An iron fist in a velvet glove, it's lovely now but will cellar well.
