As David and Beverley Atkinson enter their fifth decade at Jane Brook, the family commitment to produce premium quality wines is stronger than ever. Their vision is being carried on by their daughter, Liz Shakespeare, who ensures Jane Brook offers outstanding wines and great casual food, complimented by genuine, friendly and knowledgeable service. The home vineyard located in the Swan Valley produces old vine Shiraz and Chenin Blanc for Jane Brook's famous bottle-fermented Sparkling. A second vineyard in Margaret River produces renowned varietals such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and more recently Malbec.
What is the story behind Jane Brook's famous Sparkling Gold?
The Sparkling Gold all started with a phone call from the Perth Mint back in the Millennium. It was Perth Mint's Centenary that year and they asked us to help produce a special commemorative bottle of Sparkling wine. As primary producers of Sparkling in Western Australia, we were geared up to give it a go and the final result was spectacular. The Millennium Gold was sent out by the Perth Mint as a limited edition and people started to call to buy the "Champagne with the gold flakes". We now produce two – the Sparkling Gold Chenin Blanc and the Sparkling Gold Premium Unique – they are the perfect gift for any special occasion.
Tell us about your cellar door?
Our cellar door is steeped in history. When Beverley and David bought the winery in 1972 it was called Vignacourt Wines and it was like walking into an Aladdin's Cave full of fortified wines. Some of these are still available to taste and buy to this day including our Liqueur Verdelho that is a true blend of two vintages - 1967 and 1976. The name was changed to Jane Brook after the brook that flows through the centre of the property. Jane Brook's cellar door is full of old barrels of fortified wines and ports and we are the closest winery to Perth's domestic and international airports. We pride ourselves on the best customer service - friendly and welcoming. Our customers are our extended family.
