A visit to the cellar door provides a great atmosphere for discovery. Pepper Tree specialise in producing premium varietals including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Semillon which, along with additional varieties, are sold under several labels including the Museum Release, Black Label, Varietal, and Single Vineyard wines.
John Davis, Vigneron and Owner of Pepper Tree Wines, was a successful oil exploration geologist. In 1982 he bought his first vineyard and by 1988 his first winery. What started out as a serious hobby gradually became his sole business focus. John has used his geological knowledge to purchase select vineyard sites in four of Australia’s premium grape growing areas – the Hunter Valley, Wrattonbully, Coonawarra and Orange. His purchase of Pepper Tree in 2002 completed his objective of putting together his own vineyards with a compatible high quality boutique winery, where each vineyard’s terroir can be fully expressed.
Pepper Tree’s commitment to the four regions in which John Davis has invested so much of his time and expertise is the driving force behind all they do. The Hunter Valley is their foundation, but the roots of the tree are spread through all four regions giving them ‘the best of four worlds.’
