Hastings River

The Hastings River region was initially established in 1837, but remained dormant until 1980 when the French descended. The Cassegrain family decided to revive this region, which once encompassed 33 vineyards.

As a coastal region, the Hastings is becoming well known for the production of Chambourcin which, as a hybrid, is resistant to mildew and many diseases. The Cassegrain and Bago vineyards have great examples of this variety. The climate is tempered by cooling sea breezes, producing conditions very similar to Victoria’s Yarra Valley.
