Destination Manjimup: Introducing Peos Estate

Located in the south west corner of Western Australia, Manjimup is a natural wonderland with its towering forests, untouched coastline and pristine rivers.

Established in 1910 as a result of a railway built to service the timber industry, this boutique region is one of the most remote wine districts in the world and boasts some of the globe's oldest soils. This, combined with its elevation, pure water sources and cool temperatures, means Manjimup is perfectly poised to consistently produce world-class wines including those by Peos Estate.

PEOS ESTATE

The Macedonian-born Peos family has called Manjimup home for more than 80 years. With viticulture in their historical veins, brothers Vic, John, Kon and Chris banded together in 1996 to create their dream vineyard as a legacy to their late father, Jim Peos, and late grandfather, P.Y. Peos.

A passionate farmer, P.Y. began cultivating grapes and producing wine whilst living in Macedonia almost a century ago. He passed this love of wine down to his son, Jim, who continued to farm grapes and make wine in Macedonia until he joined P.Y. and the rest of his family in Australia in 1951.

Upon first arriving in Australia the Peos family settled in Manjimup, attracted by its rich soils and ideal crop-growing weather. Their undying devotion to living off the land has seen them farm everything from dairy cattle and beef to mixed horticulture, potatoes, cauliflowers and beans.

The establishment of Peos Estate winery by the third generation Peos brothers has turned the family dynasty full-circle back to where it belongs, growing grapes and producing wine to remember. The Peos portfolio of wines is produced entirely from estate-grown grapes, plucked from the vines planted on their 90-acre property.

FIVE MUST-TRY PEOS ESTATE WINES

Take a peek at some of Peos Estate’s delicious releases with Vic Peos’ top five wines of the season.

1. Peos Estate Icon Shiraz Cabernet 2018

A new single vineyard label from the winery, this new baby creates excitement. This pristine combination of our Shiraz and Cabernet has shown particular potential over the last couple of years. Big and very concentrated with lush rich berries and smoked meat aromas, it was crafted to be the flag bearer for the region, and we are proud of its tremendous density and power.

2. Peos Estate Four Aces Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Our top end Cabernet is inky yet youthful red in colour. I love its expansive palate, full of tobacco and black fruits. It was harvested from our oldest vines on the property, hand-picked, treasured and nurtured till the end. Irresistible now or have a future with much promise.

3. Peos Estate Four Aces Chardonnay 2018

A classic example for a Chardonnay from Manjimup, this expression shows ripe aromas of citrus and oatmeal, hints of lemon curd and sorbet continuing the palate with creamy texture and a lingering finish. Its drinking beautifully now, and I imagine well into the future too!

4. Peos Estate Four Jacks Sauvignon Blanc 2019

A weighty, textural wine with tropical flavours throughout. I love to pair it with some local Manjimup marron, twisted and twirled through my wife’s homemade spaghetti, with fresh cherry tomatoes from our vegie patch, drizzled with olive oil and garnished with parsley. Such a delish combination!

5. Peos Estate Four Kings Pinot Noir 2019

Our Pinot Noir exhibits red cherry and plum sorbet with bright lifted aromatics of violets and red fruits. It shows the full spectrum of Manjimup’s Pinot Noir potential, from the savoury notes of forest floor, to the lingering length and racy natural acidity. A crowd favourite and a consistent sell.
