Journey to Sustainability with Alkoomi Wines
Alkoomi Wines is one of Western Australia’s largest family owned and operated wineries with a James Halliday rating of 5 red stars.
The 1200-hectare farm has been home to the family since 1946 and has evolved from a grain and livestock farm, to a thriving and sustainable vineyard and innovative winery.
The family grow 9 different grape varieties that are perfect for the cool continental climate of Frankland River - Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Malbec, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon.
Alkoomi believe wine is about celebration and sharing. Their collection of wines are made to suit all occasions, bring people together, build a sense of community and to create conversation and lasting memories.
It is their passion and mission to continue the Alkoomi tradition and legacy of making authentic and delicious wines that reflect the pristine Frankland River region.
Sustainability for the Future
In recent years, Alkoomi has embarked upon a journey to minimize its carbon footprint. The installation of a 30kW solar energy panel on the roof of the winery, together with a major upgrade to the tank refrigeration system has certainly enhanced its sustainability and bodes well for the future of this family business.
Alkoomi's vineyard practices are respectful to the soil and we are always adapting and evolving our techniques, technology, and methods to be as low impact and sustainable as possible.
“We strive to use respectful and sustainable practices, from farming and crafting to enjoying our wines" Sandy and Rod Hallett say.
"We aim to preserve and protect the pristine ecosystem of Frankland River and minimise the environmental impacts of the wine industry."
The Alkoomi Family
Sandy and Rod's family are a tigh-knit team, who work together to create outstanding wines.
"Alkoomi is 'a place we chose'. Together with our devoted team, who are like family and our daughters Laura, Emily and Molly, we create authentic wines from our fourth-generation farm, nestled away in Frankland River, within the Great Southern region of Western Australia." Sandy and Rod explain.
"Our collection of wines are made to bring people together, to build a sense of community and to create conversation and lasting memories. From our family dinner table to yours, we encourage you to enjoy these wines with wholesome food, lots of laughter and the ones you love."
