Wines of the Season: Italian Classic
A slice of italy in SA
After years of working in his family’s potato business, Frank Mitolo established Mitolo Wines in 1999 with well-known winemaker Ben Glaetzer as his winemaking partner. In a very short time, Mitolo Wines has developed an international reputation for producing hand-crafted, artisanal wines from McLaren Vale’s rich soil and Mediterranean climate. The Mitolo Italian heritage runs strongly through the range with the use of Italian varietals and techniques. At the heart of it all, in the wine style, in the people, is the motto that the Mitolo’s brought from Abruzzo - forte a gentile: strong and gentle.
Mitolo vermentino 2018
Lifted, powerful perfume of citrus leaf, apple blossom and guava. Light bodied, bright and bursting with clean, clear flavours of lime and Granny Smith Apple. Mouth-watering acidity and savoury, pithy texture.
Coastal favourite
Vermentino originally hails from the coastal regions of Tuscany and the island of Sardinia where fresh, textured white wine ideal for the Mediterranean climate is produced. Mitolo’s Vermentino vineyard enjoys similar conditions. Located at the southern end of McLaren Vale, just east of the coastal town of Port Willunga, it produces a wine that is perfect with a seafood or for an outdoor summer celebration.
