Vermentino, a white wine variety, hails from the Italian region of Liguria and the Mediterranean islands of Sardinia and Corsica, although it’s thought to have originated in Spain. It produces fresh, light bodied wines with refreshing acidity and citrus characters. It thrives in the McLaren Vale region of South Australia and is seen as a white wine that works well in warmer regions. Being a white wine with a textural mouthfeel, Vermentino is a great food wine, especially with dishes such as prawn tostadas with chipotle mayo and Vietnamese fish fingers with cucumber salad.
