Explore Magnetic Island with Brilliant Travels

Islands Coast and Countryside

Waking up on Fraser Island is an experience like no other. The pace is relaxed, the scenery is pristine and the day ahead unfolds with the promise of total leisure or outdoor adventure – the choice is completely yours.

Opting for adventure, a full day 4WD eco tour, guided by a local ranger, reveals the island’s beauty spots including the crystal waters of Lake McKenzie and the coloured sands of The Pinnacles.

This is how travellers find themselves spending day four on the Queensland Islands Rail Adventure, a 13-night escape, departing from Brisbane, curated by Brilliant Travels, in conjunction with SeaLink Travel Group.

This unique holiday, taking in the Sunshine State’s magical islands, stunning coastline and heavenly countryside, starts in Brisbane where you spend a day or two exploring the vibrant attractions of this exciting destination.

Then it’s time for the first of the rail trips, as you head north to Maryborough West to catch the ferry to Fraser Island. But rather than a way to simply get from A to B, this smooth train journey is very much a part of your holiday as you speed through a gorgeous landscape.

Flora, fauna and food

The 4WD eco tour is the first of many Fraser Island activities you can enjoy. For more nature, the island’s guides eagerly await to reveal to you the nocturnal wildlife on a night spotlighting walk. Possible creature encounters include the rare acid frog, insectivorous bats and local sugar gliders.

For food lovers, the choices are deliciously unique, with local fare on show at Kingfisher Bay Resort’s signature restaurant, Seabelle, as well as on the Bush Tucker Talk and Taste tour. Or try the Sand Bar for cocktails and a more relaxed casual dining option.

Tropical treats

Leaving Fraser Island, there’s more train travel to be enjoyed aboard the Spirit of Queensland as you head further north to tropical Townsville. There you have the choice of spending a day taking in the attractions of the city, or jumping straight on the ferry to Magnetic Island where more magic awaits.

Another pristine paradise, Magnetic Island is home to Northern Australia’s largest colony of wild koalas. Or meet them and other wildlife up close at Bungalow Bay Koala Village, where you can also feed the lorikeets.

With a hire car included, you can also create your own adventures with a plethora of picnic spots to uncover. Add to that a sunset cruise and by the time you board the Spirit of Queensland once more, you’ll be swimming in Magnetic memories to cherish and share.

But the experience doesn’t end there. As you head up to Cairns you’ll have time to ponder the choices that await. Perhaps you’ll cruise the outer reef to snorkel or dive at this natural wonder or simply view it through a glass-bottomed boat. Or maybe you’ll hop aboard the Kuranda Scenic Rail for a rainforest adventure. Or perhaps you’ll while away the days by the resort pool or on The Esplanade watching the world go by.
