Taste Play Stay Granite Belt
Be charmed by the sheer natural beauty and first-rate produce of this emerging wine region.
Oft overlooked in discussions around Australian wine hotspots, the Granite Belt is overcoming its obscurity to enjoy a real moment in the sun. Claimed to be the country’s highest wine region, it straddles the Great Dividing Range as the northernmost part of the New England Tablelands. In many ways the high country gateway between Queensland and New South Wales, the region is centred on the delightful town of Stanthorpe, with neighbouring Ballandean and Glen Aplin falling in its boundaries.
From the ancient flora and granite boulders of Girraween National Park to the abundant apple and stonefruit orchards, it has proven itself a wine country of no small distinction and a first-rate tourist destination. Home to the Queensland College of Wine Tourism and with some 50+ wineries hard at work, it is Queensland’s premier wine region, first inhabited by the Githabul and Kambuwal peoples. The discovery of gold drew many Europeans to the region, and as such the area is filled with a number of historic sites worth visiting.
Art galleries, providores, and exceeding natural splendour await all who visit, making the Granite Belt an ideal escape.
